About Us

Established in 1987 by KICCUP (Knoxville’s Inner City Churches United for People) to fill a gap left by traditional missions, VMC now operates four main programs: The Day Room, The Refuge, The Jackson Apartments and The People’s Clinic. Traditional missions house homeless people overnight and only offer services such as daytime shelter and counseling to their overnight guests who commit to attending their in-house programs. While these programs are valuable, they do not meet the needs of many of the poor and homeless who are severely mentally ill or addicted and leave many people wandering the streets during the day. This is where VMC’s programs step in.
